Wilderness & Natural Areas
SUMMARY
This law (MCL 324.35101 - 35111) allows the state to designate state and privately owned lands as natural and/or wilderness areas. Private land or land under the control of other governmental units may be designated by the DNR in the same way as a wilderness area, wild area, or natural area and administered by the department under a cooperative agreement between the owner and the DNR. Once designated, various activities are prohibited in order to protect the natural values of the land.
