Our Mission Southwest Michigan Land Conservancy (SWMLC) protects the diversity, stability and beauty of southwest Michigan by preserving our natural and scenic lands.
We are dedicated to:
- protecting natural areas, historic sites and open spaces through gifts, purchases or conservation easements, - encouraging ecologically sound land practices, - enabling individuals and organizations to protect land important to wildlife and people, - providing opportunities and sites for education, research, outdoor recreation and nature study.
Simply stated, we preserve land that gives our region its distinctive character.
What we do: SWMLC works to maintain the scenic character of Southwest Michigan by preserving significant natural and scenic land and open space.
SWMLC obtains land and conservation easements from willing landowners.
SWMLC helps local governments and organizations obtain open space and parks.
SWMLC works with other organizations to preserve open space.
SWMLC offers field trips to the public.
SWMLC remains politically neutral to promote greater participation by all interested parties.
SWMLC encourages people to learn and make up their own minds about land use decisions.
SWMLC opens many of its preserves to the public.
