Notice To All Milk Haulers

With the upcoming Spring Weight Restrictions season we are notifying all Milk Haulers of the requirement under MCL 257.22 (9) for them to obtain a Special Agricultural permit. If you do not have a permit at this time we strongly suggest that you obtain one as soon as possible so that when the weight restrictions go into effect you are not stopped and issued an overweight citation.
Thank you for your cooperation during this long season it is greatly appreciated.

Michigan Weight Law

Special notice should be taken of the fact that Van Buren County has no Special Designated or Designated roads on our system, All Van Buren County Roads are rated as Normal loading when seasonal weight restrictions are not on.

Normal Loading Axle Maximums
• No other axle within 9' on EITHER side, 18,000 lbs. per axle
• Axle spacing between 3 1/2 to 9', 13,000 lbs. per axle
• Axle spacing less than 3 1/2', 9,000 lbs. per axle
These axle loads are reduced by 35% during seasonal weight restrictions.

As always, special attention will be given to all trucks with droppable axles (tag axles) to insure that the axles are in the lowered position. Any truck found with its axle in the raised position will be stopped and weighed consideration will be given for trucks turning corners for 300 feet from the intersection.

Overweight citations may be issued with the driver as the defendant. It will be the driver’s responsibility to pay any fines incurred. These fines can be quite substantial with some of them as much as .20 cents a pound for each overweight axle.
There will be no exceptions for propane delivery trucks, they must be at legal axle weights when they leave their yard.
